Application Info & Costs

- before applying it is important to consider costs and double-check that you qualify for the programme.

How to Apply

Step 1 - Book online.

Step 2 - BUNAC confirms your place on the programme and sends you details on the next steps and how to access BUNAC's Job Listing via your BUNAC Account.

Step 3 - Return your completed insurance booking form with payment along with SEVIS payment, participant agreement, reference (a standard form will be provided which must be completed by an employer/teacher or lecturer) and proof of student status. Your DS-2019 (the official document which allows you to apply for the visa) will then be requested on your behalf and full information on how to apply for the J-1 visa will be sent to you.

During the application process you will have an informal phone interview to discuss your knowledge of the programme.

Step 4 - Once your visa has been issued you are ready to fly to America!

Work America participants group shot

BUNAC recommends that all participants arrange a job before they leave the UK. It will give you peace of mind knowing you have work lined up and in which part of America. You also won’t have to wait too long for your first pay cheque! BUNAC’s Job Directory (available once you are registered on the programme) can help you in your job search and is an easy way to find casual summer work in the US.

Once you have found a job

You must ensure your employer notifies BUNAC of the details of your job. Ask them to complete and return the Employer Job Form (.pdf) to you, then complete the participant section on the form before returning it to BUNAC; after having taken a copy for yourself.
