When to apply

There is no specific application deadline for Work in Ireland so you can apply at any time of the year. The program operates a rolling application procedure and entry documents are usually issued within six to eight weeks.

However, in order to allow time to fully prepare for your trip, you are urged to apply no later than ten weeks before your intended date of departure.

If your semester of eligibility is spring 2010, you should have all application materials dated after March 1st 2010.

Insurance

It is a program requirement that you take travel insurance on Work in Ireland to cover your time in Ireland. A 4 month policy costs $239. We suggest you take advantage of BUNAC's comprehensive (i.e. more than medical) travel insurance coverage for your entire time in Ireland under USIT/BUNAC sponsorship. We have developed a special, discounted travel package exclusively for BUNAC participants which provides coverage far superior to any other policy we have found and at a significantly lower price. Full policy details can be viewed online here.

To purchase travel insurance complete the enclosed Insurance Declaration and submit it with a cashier's check or money order made payable to BUNAC.

Participants who already have suitable insurance coverage for this trip, or choose to purchase another policy, must sign the waiver agreeing to provide adequate alternative coverage. Please note, the minimum insurance included with an ISIC card is not an acceptable level of coverage.

Cancellation conditions

If you cancel from the program before your application has been submitted to the Irish Embassy, there will be a $100 program cancellation fee. However please note that we will normally process an application as soon as we receive it. If you cancel from the program after your application has been submitted to the Irish Embassy, there is no refund.

Did you travel during your time on the Work in Ireland program?

I traveled every chance I had, taking several short day trips along the Ring of Kerry. A friend flew in from the States we rented a car and traveled all around Killarney, east to Cork and then up to Galway, and back down to the Cliffs of Moher. I highly recommend traveling by car. I then took a week from work and flew to Brussels with three friends. We took a train to Amsterdam and spent a few days. I wish I had taken more time to travel around Europe as I had originally planned, but I was having such a good time in Killarney that it was difficult to leave.
