Excursions
Orientation
Following pick- up at Siem Reap airport, volunteers have a day to settle in before
being given all the essential information about their projects, local customs, safety,
hygiene, travel and social events. For the next few days there are some fantastic
excursions and activities lined up for them!
Day 1
Siem Reap Tour
Volunteers are taken on a guided tour around Siem Reap’s best attractions and have
plenty of opportunities to pick up a few souvenirs in the city’s many markets. In
the evening, they are taken to an authentic Cambodian restaurant to taste the local
cuisine while watching a traditional dance show.
Day 2
Trip to Angkor Wat
Angkor Wat is an absolute must-see in Cambodia and volunteers are taken to see the
majestic ancient temples for a full day.
Day 3
Khmer language class
In the morning, volunteers have a two hour Khmer lesson to help them get to grips
with the local lingo!
Tonle Sap Lake boat trip
The Tonle Sap Lake is one of the most bizarre wonders of the natural world. During
the monsoon season, the Mekong River reverses its flow and the water flows back
into the lake, increasing its size by five times and transforming it into a huge
natural water reservoir. As the water level changes so often, local people living
on the lake have to move their houses constantly. The lake is home to an abundance
of wildlife, including snakes, turtles, crocodiles and leopards.
Day 4
Child Protection Workshop
Our local partner is committed to child safety and works in line with a detailed
Child Protection Policy. The final day of the orientation is a full day Child Protection
workshop, providing volunteers with valuable knowledge and skills for teaching in
Cambodia.
