Your Base
Where will I be living?
Accommodation is normally provided in the school grounds during the training and
placement. Apartments are basic, but comfortable and participants usually share a room. Food
is served in the school canteen or restaurant and is included during training and
throughout the school term.
Who will I be working with on my project?
During the TEFL training participants live with about 50-70 other international
teacher interns.
While teaching, participants work in a school alongside Chinese teachers but are
placed with at least one other international programme participant.
What’s the local area like?
Participants are initially based in the lively city of Beijing, which becomes their
home from home while they complete the first 4 weeks of the TEFL course. The city
boasts numerous world-famous attractions:
Tiananmen Square: Surrounded by grand architecture and buzzing with life
all day long, Tiananmen Square is the largest public square in the world and is
a must-see in Beijing.
The National Stadium: Perhaps better known as The Bird's Nest, the stadium
is one of Beijing’s newest landmarks and was an icon of the 2008 Olympic Games.
Forbidden City: Travellers to China are usually spellbound by the palace
of the Forbidden City, which survived the cultural revolution reasonably unscathed.
The Great Wall of China: Just an hour away from Beijing lies one of the most
famous landmarks in the world!
